Fédération Envie, a national network of social enterprises specialised in the reuse and repair of electrical appliances in France, and Ecosystem, a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO), have cooperated for almost 20 years. In accordance with French and European regulations, Ecosystem is responsible for the collection and management of electronic waste. Fédération Envie and Ecosystem work together to improve collection and circularity, while creating employment opportunities for vulnerable groups.
Fédération Envie and Ecosystem have developed a partnership for the collection, preparation for reuse, and resale of household waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Ecosystem allocates an annual quota of electronic waste to Envie, enabling preparation for reuse activities in Envie’s 37 workshops in France. The partnership also includes experiments with home collection services and financial support for process optimisation.
The collaboration has established Envie as a key player in the reuse and repair sector, and extended the lifespan of electrical appliances and other devices to prevent waste and new purchases. Envie’s activities help create inclusive jobs for people distanced from the labour market while also benefiting low-income households due to the reduced prices of second-hand goods.
“We absolutely must build and maintain partnerships because alone, we cannot change anything. We are a long way from being able to refurbish all the products that we could. That’s why we have a partnership with Ecosystem to scale and go much further regarding the volume of products that we will refurbish in the future and address the environmental challenges of overconsumption”.
