Insieme Società Cooperativa Sociale, a social enterprise, carries out waste management that prioritises preparation for reuse, in line with the EU waste hierarchy. A partnership with the Siggi Group Spa, a textile manufacturer, was initiated through a consultancy which recognised Insieme’s expertise in circular activities for textiles and introduced them to Siggi.
The social cooperative provides consultancy services and management to Siggi Group Spa, a textile manufacturer, for its pre-consumer and/or post-consumer waste. The consultancy opportunity is due to Insieme’s expertise in sustainable waste management, including sorting and high-quality recycling.
The partnership contributes to the circularity of textiles waste in the region, which was much needed due to the lack of skills and services in the market for innovative and circular waste management. The partnership has also allowed Insieme Cooperativa Sociale to increase the number of disadvantaged individuals employed and receiving training, thus improving their skills. For the Siggi Group, the partnership has also helped diversify and boost revenue streams, contributing to its long-term sustainability.
“We are working to replicate this model, although not identically, with other private companies that have contacted us. We also believe that other social enterprises could implement a similar approach, depending on their structure and waste management system they have in place”
