Fundació Deixalles, a social enterprise, partners with TIRME, a recycling company that has an administrative concession with local authorities for waste management. The 20-year-old partnership began as a result of the anti-incinerator movement in Mallorca, in which Fundació Deixalles participated. Through this process, the two parties identified common interests and established a partnership.
Fundació Deixalles provides operating services and sorting activities for light packaging to TIRME. This successful partnership started at a time when there were no social criteria, no tenders reserved for social entities, nor employment quotas for individuals with disabilities.
The collaboration provides job opportunities for between 45-50 individuals distanced from the labour market to work at the TIRME facility. As a result of the project, 1200 individuals at risk of exclusion have been placed in regular jobs after completing programmes at Fundació Deixalles. In addition, 710 training hours have been provided to staff of the packaging selection plant.
“A success story from this partnership is one of a former employee, who in 2017 completed a training course for vulnerable groups at the Fundació Deixalles. Thanks to this experience he was hired as a waste selection operator, enhancing both his social and professional skills. This opportunity allowed him to progress to the role of first-class selection cabin officer and eventually to centre supervisor. He worked very satisfactorily in this capacity until his retirement in 2023.”
